As someone who is both a movie buff and the girlfriend of a boyfriend who isn’t the biggest fan of romantic movies, I can tell you that agreeing on a movie to watch can get complicated. But, after two years together, I have discovered the best movies to watch with your boyfriend that you will both enjoy.

Finding good movies to watch with your boyfriend
Before I offer you a full list of movies you and your boyfriend are sure to like, here is some advice on movie hunting.
Firstly, if you and your boyfriend don’t click on movie tastes, it is not the end of the world. You don’t need to have the same favorite movies to enjoy watching them together.
Not only is compromising a great thing for your relationship, but opening up to new things that you wouldn’t have watched before is great. For instance, I had never seen the Marvel movies, Lord of the Rings, or Star Wars before meeting my boyfriend. I had no interest, but I watched because he wanted me to, and now I’m a huge fan.
I’ve also introduced him to some movies he was sure he wouldn’t like, and he adores them now. So you never know what branching out might offer both of you. [Read: How to compromise in a relationship without feeling like you’re losing out]

You know that time in your life when you’re single, you haven’t figured out your career, and it seems like every moment that could turn out badly does? That is what this movie centers around. Kristen Wiig stars as Annie, a failed bakery owner, letting men treat her poorly, who is just at a bad spot, but whose best friend is marrying the love of her life.

Did you have a FWB situation with your boyfriend before you settled down? Even if you didn’t, this sexy and hilarious rom-com starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis will make you wish you had. It is clever, joyous, and have some awesome cameos from Emma Stone and even Shaun White.
This is a good movie to watch with your boyfriend because it is simple fun. It doesn’t require a ton of emotion or thought. It is just your classic romantic comedy, but not so cutesy.
21. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This is the movie that started the male-driven romantic comedies. Instead of following a sad woman who is single or dealing with heartbreak, this movie stars Jason Segel trying to come to terms with a major breakup. But, when he takes a trip to unwind, his ex is there with her new beau.
It shows the deepest lows of a breakup and the awkwardness that is facing an ex that you’re just not over. Your man will definitely find this relatable and you will find it oddly insightful. [Read: What you need to do to look really cool when you bump into your ex]
22. You’ve Got Mail
Okay, this may have made this list because it is one of my personal favorites, but it is still worthy of this list regardless of my personal feelings. This classic 90s romantic comedy stars the one and only Tom Hanks, and the rom-com icon herself, Meg Ryan.
Sure, this may not have the hot sex scenes, action, or even intense humor that some other movies on this list have, but, so what? What more could you want than two dueling bookstore owners in New York catching feelings for each other?
23. About Time
This is a sweet movie about love, life, and a unique father son relationship. This isn’t necessarily a comedy, but an underrated one. It shows a young man come of age and learning that like his father, he can go back in time. With this new power, he struggles to use it to his advantage.
Through love, parenthood, and loss, he learns the true meaning of life while having some funny encounters along the way. It may sound somewhat deep, and that’s because it is, but it is driven with a remarkable cast and clever dialogue.
24. Marley and Me
Trying to convince your boyfriend to adopt a dog with you? Well, this movie could really push him either way. Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson star as a couple that adopt a puppy and it follows that trio throughout marriage, kids, and more.
This sweet comedy is more than romance. It shows how a pet, even a crazy one, can truly impact your life. Just a warning, have a box of tissues ready. [Read: The true signs you’re ready to get a pet together]
25. We’re the Millers
Another Jennifer Aniston led comedy, but this one is much more rated R. With amazing casting additions like Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Nick Offerman, you cannot go wrong. The Millers, a made up family trying to get an RV of drugs across the border come across some unique characters that make their trip a bit more than they bargained for.
This isn’t just hilarious, but it even has some pretty sweet and romantic moments as well. Don’t get me wrong, the intense level of comedy overpowers them, but they’re there if you want them.
26. Meet The Parents
This Ben Stiller classic that casts Robert DeNiro as former CIA future father-in-law is comedy gold. This is the perfect movie to watch with your boyfriend to prepare him for meeting your parents. It will show him the worst of the worst things that could happen, so he’s ready for anything. [Read: How not to screw up when meeting the parents for the first time]
27. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
This is one of Jim Carrey’s most underrated films. Co-starring Kate Winslet, this movie deals with the fallout after a breakup. It is a balance of sci-fi, romance, and indie genres. There really isn’t a better way to explain, so you’ll just have to watch.
Suppose it seems like something you or your boyfriend might not like. Then, I encourage you to give it a chance. My boyfriend actually got me to watch it because he likes it so much, and I am now a convert.
28. A Star is Born
There are number of versions of this movie, but I have to recommend the most recent starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. This modern version of a classic story is heartbreaking, beautiful, and cinematic perfection.
I do also want to let you know that it is NOT a musical if you and your boyfriend are firmly against those. This movie features rock music, a little pop, and some amazingly vocalized ballads, but they work with the plot, and there are no choreographed dance numbers. However, the chemistry and vocals shared between the stars are unmatched and cannot be missed. [Read: 20 most romantic songs for the one you love]
29. Forrest Gump
This is an epic love story for the ages. Tom Hanks absolutely kills his role as a young man facing bullies, reality, and politics while being raised by a single mother in the south. His life experiences span the globe as he finds true friendship, love, and more than ever imagined.
30. Bicentennial Man
I had to include at least one Robin Williams classic on this list. This movie takes place in the not-so-distant future. Williams plays a robot butler who falls in love with his human family and has humanity within him that is so unique.
The movie follows him through generations as he learns what it truly means to be a family, be in love, and be human.

Of course, there are other great movies to watch aside from these, but if you’re clueless about what movies to watch with your boyfriend, this is a great list! Enjoy!
