15 Fun Games to Play When You’re Bored & Want to Do Something Fun

Not every date night has to be filled with sexual things. Here are 15 games to play when you’re bored on date night and want to have a great time together.

games to play when you're bored

Many people think that “date night” means they have to get all dolled up in their sexiest gear for a night of pleasure with their lover. But the truth is, date night can be innocent and completely nonsexual too. You don’t have to play naughty sex games after a night out in order to have a good time with your boyfriend. Sure, that can definitely be fun and a good way to spice up a relationship, but it’s just not always needed or necessary in order to have fun with them. Now and then, especially when you’re running out of things to do, all you need are a few fun games to play when you’re bored and feel closer immediately.

The benefits of innocent game nights

These types of innocent game nights can actually be better than playing naughty, sexual games for a number of different reasons. Sex shouldn’t *always* be the top priority in your relationship, and these types of date nights help reassure both of you of that you actually want to spend time with them as a person.

It also allows the two of you to bond in a different way and become closer as a couple. This helps you feel comfortable and safe around them without getting naked – and it solidifies your feelings for them. Once you have fun with them in an innocent way, it brings you closer together. Innocent and fun games to play when you’re bored with the together times

Game date nights are always my favorite ones with my boyfriend. We pull out all sorts of games, order takeout, and spend the evening competing with each other and laughing for hours.

If you want to have the same type of innocent date night with your guy, these games are the best to play if you really want to have a good time. Be warned, though, this may put both of you in a mega-competitive state!

1. Board games

I think we all grew up playing board games, and now that the internet has arrived, we’ve all but forgotten about them since there are so many games to play on the internet. However, nothing can compare to the fun that can be had with a board game.

If you’re lazing at home with your guy, and looking for games to play when you’re bored, all you have to do is pick out your #1 favorite childhood board game, have your boyfriend do the same, and compete to see who is the real master of the game.

2. Pretend that you don’t know each other on your date

This one is just downright FUN! If you’re bored of the same old date nights and want to make it interesting, simply pretend that you two don’t know each other.

Then you can ask questions like you would on a first date and see what facts have changed since you first went out with them. [Read: 30 naughty questions for couples to keep the spark alive]

3. Twister

This one can get a little inappropriate at times if you read too much into it. However, it can also be a perfectly innocent game – and a fun one! Just spin the dial and see who can hold themselves up in a twisted position for the longest. Make the loser do the dishes!

4. Mad lib

If you’ve never played this game before, you’re in for a real treat. You can get pre-made cards or you can make your own. Simply write up a story and leave adjectives, verbs, and nouns blank.

Then your partner will come up with random nouns, adjectives, and verbs to fill those spaces without having read your story. Now you can read the story with his words in place and laugh your butt off!

5. Would you rather

This game is as simple as it sounds and can help you learn a lot about your boyfriend. All you have to do is come up with two different – and crazy – scenarios and ask which of the two he’d rather do. It’s fun and really interesting to see what he’d rather do, and if it’s different than what you’d do. [Read: 40 grossest would you rather questions that’ll leave you squirming]

6. Two truths and a lie

I think most people play this as an ice breaker when first meeting a new group of people, but you can play it as a really fun game, too. This is especially good for testing to see how much your boyfriend has been paying attention.

Just come up with 2 truths and a lie about yourself and see if he can guess which are which. Have him do the same and test your own memory. [Read: 15 conversation games to have a ridiculously good time]

7. Video games

If you’re looking for games to play when you’re bored, there’s one thing that will keep the two of you entertained for hours, and that’s video games. Now, I know most girls get annoyed when their boyfriends play video games, but now is your chance to see what it’s all about.

Maybe you can even make a wager that if you beat him at a game, he can’t play for a week – or even two! You’ll have fun, and who knows! Maybe you’ll even enjoy yourself enough to make it a regular occurrence.

8. 20 questions with a twist

How well do you really know your boyfriend? I love 20 questions because you can really get to know someone better, but this game will be a little different.

Instead of coming up with your own questions, you and your boyfriend will make up a list of questions about yourselves and then ask the other person them. This will really test how well you know each other. [Read: Do you really know them? 20 fun questions to ask someone who’s close]

9. Never have I ever

Never have I ever is a fairly popular game that gets played at parties a lot. To make it more intimate, just play with the two of you and keep it appropriate. Just say things like, “never have I ever been to Europe,” and get to know your boyfriend more.

10. Kiss, Marry, Kill

If you haven’t heard if this game, then it’s likely you didn’t have very much fun as a teenager. With this game, you list off 3 people and you have to say who you would rather kiss, marry, or kill. The one rule is that you can’t ever have yourselves in the list of people.

11. Scrabble

Some people say scrabble is boring, but I think it’s SUPER fun and can get really competitive. You can make a rule that you can only use words that pertain to a specific subject to make it harder – and more fun.

12. Guessing game

Do you really trust your partner? This game requires you to wear a blindfold because your boyfriend will be guiding you around and make you touch 5 things. If you guess them all correctly, you win! If you get some wrong, it’s his turn and whoever gets the most right wins!

13. Trivia night

Local restaurants and bars usually always have trivia night during the week. Take a date night out and go play! You can be on the same team, or you can compete against each other to see who is really smarter. [Read: How well do you know me? 35 fun get-to-know-you questions for couples]

14. Truth or dare

I think we’ve all played this game a hundred times before. But have we played it with JUST our boyfriends?

This is a seriously fun game to get to know your boyfriend more and to even make him do ridiculous dares. And don’t forget to have your camera ready!

15. Write a story

This may sound boring, but this isn’t just a normal story. One person starts the first paragraph and the other adds onto it. You never speak about what you’re going to write, and your goal is to make it harder to for each other to add something that makes sense to it.

Read it out loud together afterwards and laugh at the craziness you’ve just created!
