If you’ve been feeling down in the dumps lately, maybe you need to change your mentality. It’s time you added some positive mantras to live by.
There are going to be times when you feel like your life is spiraling into a pile of shit and there’s nothing you can do. Okay, so maybe I’m talking about me, but there must be at least one other person out there… right? When I was in a deep hole of despair, I found some mantras to live by that I repeat to myself in the morning. Did I still feel like shit? Yes, but I felt less shitty knowing that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
14 mantras to live by that can bring positivity into your life
So, what I’m trying to say is, mantras help. They don’t solve your problems, but they make you see the positive side to whatever situation you’re currently in. Here are some mantras that turns your gloomy day upside down.
You gotta have a mantra.
#1 This too shall pass. I know that you probably think that whatever shit you’re going through is going to last forever, but you know it won’t. Some things are out of your control. However, your reaction to the situation isn’t. It may take some time for it to pass, but it will pass. [Read: 13 happy things you need for a perfectly happy life!]
#2 Trust the gut. This mantra should be something you tell yourself every day. You should trust your gut. People tell you a lot of things, things that may be used to manipulate you. But you have to trust your gut. Your first feeling about someone isn’t wrong, so, stick with that opinion. Your gut instinct is a part of us as human beings.
#3 I am enough. Because you are. There are some days where people want more from you or where you think you’re not worthy of something. It could even prevent you going on a date with someone who you think “out of your league” *whatever the f#ck that means*. But listen, you are enough, you’ve always been enough. You’ll continue to be enough. [Read: Follow your dreams – All the amazing reasons why it’s worth it]
#4 Live in the moment. Nowadays, we’re so heavily connected to our phones, we lose touch with what’s happening around us. We message people who aren’t with us at that moment. Instead, ignoring what we should focus on.
#5 Take a chance. Because if you don’t, you’ll spend the rest of your life asking yourself the worst question in the world, “what if?” No! No, “what if.” You need to be courageous and brave, take a chance at something you’re scared of. Once I told a guy that I had feelings for him. Okay, I was rejected, but if I never told him how I felt, it would bother me. Taking a chance doesn’t mean you get what you want, but you learn how to conquer fear.
#6 If not now, when? If you don’t do it now, when will you do it? So many people say “Oh, I’ll do it tomorrow.” No, you won’t. Trust me, you won’t.
It keeps getting pushed and pushed. One day you’re 70-years-old. That’s just how it goes. Don’t procrastinate your life away. If you ask yourself this question, you see there is no better time than now.
#7 Let it go. Maybe you had a fight with your mom, or maybe your boss said something that really hurt your feelings. First, express how that person made you feel and then let it go. If you don’t let it go, you’ll harbor all that negative energy inside of you. You can’t control what happened, you only control your reaction to it. #8 I’m grateful for everything I have. People forget to be grateful for what they have. Every day, before you go to bed, tell yourself how grateful you are for what you have. Maybe you had a shitty day, but you’re alive, healthy, and have people who love you. What more could you ask for?
#9 I will positively affect someone’s day, today. Why not try to make someone else’s day better? Pay for someone’s coffee or compliment someone on how they look. You’d be surprised how a small gesture makes such a difference. By using this mantra, you not only think positively about others, but it makes you feel good about yourself. #10 Go slowly. This can be useful for every aspect of your life. We’re used to doing everything so fast—eat fast, date fast, walk fast. We forget to slow it down and enjoy the moment. Take the time to remind yourself that you don’t need to rush through life. Sometimes it’s okay to slow down and enjoy the moment.
#11 Do what makes you happy. If you don’t try to do what makes you happy, you’ll regret it. Now, not all of us can quit our jobs and travel around the world.
But what you can do is use your spare time to do things that make you happy. Maybe you can’t travel the world right now, but you can go somewhere new around your city every weekend. [Read: 15 ways to discover self-love and happiness]
#12 I accept whatever will happen today. Listen, the minute you wake up, you have no idea what the day will bring you. It could be good or it could be bad. Whatever comes your way, you’ll be able to handle it.
Because this is life, no one knows what’s going to happen, we only predict. But what you need to do is tell yourself that you’ll be able to handle whatever comes your way.
#13 I love myself. People often forget how amazing they are. Self-love is something that we all have, yet, sometimes we let it slip away. Maybe you dated someone who puts you down, or you have children and put yourself second. You forget about yourself and what you’re worth. Saying to yourself, “I love myself,” helps remind you that you’re worthy of love and respect. [Read: Focus on yourself: 17 ways to create your own sunshine]
#14 Yes, I can. You can! If you ever think you’re not able to do something, just think to yourself, “Yes, I can.” You’re no better or worse than anyone else. What separates those who do what they want and those who don’t is their belief in themselves. If you believe in yourself, you’ll be able to do anything.
