Understanding the basic rules to be a good wingman is simple, but executing it is the hard part. Always remember that you’re helping a friend here and that’s your biggest interest. So what are the rules a wingman should know?

Objective of the Wingman
The Scenario
You and your friend enter a bar and spot two girls. The first task is to decide which guy will go after which girl. A crucial decision. The approach and pairing process must be effortless and seemingly smooth. In rare instances, a perfect match will be made and all four will go home to someone’s apartment and make out all night, and the next morning figure out where the cars are parked. This rarely happens and is far more likely that one girl, hopefully your girl, will be interested in going home with you.
The Stance
The issue here is whether she will leave her girlfriend behind, which is why the girlfriend of the target girl must be taken care of. The girlfriend, because her co-operation is vital, must be treated with the highest respect and courtesy. Like a queen. If her girlfriend complains, or refuses to give her consent to the target girl, the deal is in jeopardy.
The Big Deal
The wing’s purpose is to distract the obstacle and support the hunt, so the Lead Player can isolate his target. This is the most important rule that sets the stage for all other wingman guidelines. But if you are targeting the obstacle a.k.a. the girl’s girlfriend, you are doing justice to the job of isolating.
But if you’re pissing the obstacle, her protection shield will auto-start. Women sniff out when you are hitting on them and then they search for their comfort zone. She will then stick to her friend (the target) like glue. Game over.
You shouldn’t be a wingman if you can’t lock your radar on her, without her running away with the target girl. The best way to beat this is by being patient. If you run out of it, then fill up on the patience ammo. Or sooner or later, no one will want you as their wingman. Patience is required. First, you distract the obstacle and wait for the player to isolate his target. Once he does that, you are isolated with the obstacle and you can then proceed to game her as normal.
Wingman Rules – How to Enter the Scenario
Tactical Entry
The very first thing you need to do is to wait for the point when your lead player starts to warm the target girl to have a drink with him, before you make an entry into the scene. Once your pal ol’ buddy, Don Juan de Marco has reached the point of happy conversations, you proceed and enter into the picture. Just sit back at the bar counter and watch your friend. At times, you may need to wait longer than normal, as he may not need you yet. But do come in sooner, if someone tries to interfere with him. Generally though, wait for a sign from your friend before going in with the add-on ammo.
Zip it or Get Zero
When entering a set of girls, never, ever, ever use an opener or a pick up line. When you’re a wingman, don’t barge in with any one liners, especially opinion openers. Openers in general will reset the mood towards you as the lead player and often, you will find that the target’s attention will start drifting more towards you and that just will not help your pal to stalk his target. As a wingman, all you need to do is support your man. So don’t say anything that will dilute the attention he’s getting. Agree with him, put in your two cent liners, but let him run the show.
Naughty Curfew
Another big no-no is sexual innuendo. Don’t ever start talking naughty when you’re a wingman. The potential risks are 1. You may blow both, you and your leading friend out of set as the girls may not like what you are talking about and 2. If the girls don’t mind a bit of naughty talk, once again it diverts their attention from him, towards you. Both options don’t make you a good wingman.
