1. Be funny and very conversational but don’t dominate
Maintain the delicate balance of being witty to make others laugh and relax. Often, it’s best to play off with what the women say first. This way, you can establish a base of operation as the night kicks off, without actually dominating your player pal.
2. Take two levels of stories about your player friend
Have a recent something to tell about your lead player, to show that both of you are very good friends. That will give you the credibility with the girl’s friend, who stamps the seal on whether or not she can hook up with your player friend.
A long-term story is fine too, even if it’s one told and retold a thousand times already. It should be a story that’s slightly embarrassing but reveals the true nature of your friendship. And remember, the tale’s got to be hilarious!
3. Always, always buy the second round of drinks
Your friend is the lead pilot in this scenario. Let him buy the first round of drinks.
As you get up, walk to the bar and wait for everyone else in front of you to get served first, you give the guy and girl a chance to be alone for a few minutes.
4. Cargo pants for more supplies
This one can be crucial depending on the number in the group and the location. If you’re at a bar with a group of four or more and you go to get the drinks, you’re out of hands before you even order. Enter the cargo pant pocket. No, not the literal one. We’re talking about her friend here. Ask one of the lead girl’s friends to help you with the drinks. Too many guys think this is a stupid move, but trust us, this one is a warm move that shows a friendly bond that can take you a long way with her. Just as long as you’re sweet enough to play your words well.
5. Take the measured risks
As the night progresses, your boy can’t suggest a round of shots or a silly drinking game, but you can! That’s the beauty of the wingman. There is no pressure and you don’t need any liquid courage, just liquid. So order that extra round and saddle up for the night.
6. Know when to break away
There is nothing worse than the wingman who doesn’t leave when the time is right. A good wingman knows when his job is done. Walk away, dude. Your boy will thank you later, preferably with cash, drinks or his girl’s friend. If you haven’t hitched that already!
